L’opera d’arte Obey Your Fears di Macinino™ racchiude all’apparenza le classiche caratteristiche di un
opera d’arte contemporanea. Tre mascherine antipolline, racchiuse in una cornice, a distanza ravvicinata, ognuna con una parola. Tre mascherine che poste accanto l’una all’altra compongono una frase di senso compiuto, letteralmente “obbedisci alle tue paure”. Tre mascherine che poste all’interno di una cornice escono dallo status di oggetti di uso comune per venire elevati al rango di oggetti da esporre, magari in una galleria d’arte.
The work of art “Obey Your Fears” by Macinino™ appears to include all of the classical features of a
contemporary work of art. Three pollen masks enclosed in a frame: seen up close, each one is printed with a word. Three masks that, when placed next to each other, form a logical statement: “obey your fears”. Three masks that, set within a frame, lose their status as everyday objects and are elevated to the rank of objects on display, perhaps even in an art gallery.
It would be very limiting to think of this work, “Obey Your Fears”, as merely provocatory contemporary art, or as an ordinary object that magically acquires the value and dignity of art as a result of being framed. The three masks are becoming works of art because they themselves were actively involved in an artistic process; in some ways they themselves might be considered artists.
Sarebbe molto limitativo pensare all’opera Obey Your Fears come una mera provocazione d’arte contemporanea, o come un’oggetto comune che magicamente acquista valore e dignità d’arte grazie a una cornice. Le tre mascherine divengono opera d’arte perchè sono state esse stesse coinvolte attivamente in un processo d’arte, in un certo qual modo sono state artiste a loro volta.
L’opera Obey Your Fears è un perfetto esempio di
prototipo d’arte utilizzato per l’immagine con la quale Macinino™™ ha partecipato all’edizione 2009 dell’evento Billboard – Words, promosso da
fondazione march e Tina B a Padova. Ecco allora che tre semplici oggetti sono stati trasformati e elevati al rango di oggetto d’arte, perchè componenti attivi di un processo ideale e materiale che ha portato a un’opera d’arte, in questo caso un’immagine.
Spesso si trascura che il pittore non crea senza il pennello, lo scultore senza il materiale della scultura e l’artista senza la tela…spesso la tela è stata bruciata, sfregiata, abbandonata. Macinino™ a Padova, con la Macinazione, vuole restituire agli oggetti che fanno l’arte e al processo che porta all’opera finita un’importanza che è stata a lungo dimenticata.The artwork: “Obey Your Fears” is a perfect example of an
art prototype used to create the image with which Macinino™ participated in the 2009 edition of the Billboard event – Words, sponsored by the fondazione march macinino padova arte March Foundation and Tina B in Padua. It is in this way that three simple objects are transformed and elevated to the status of art object, because they functioned as active components of a conceptual and material process which led to a work of art, in this case an image.
The fact that the painter cannot create without a brush, the sculptor without materials, nor the artist without a canvas has often been overlooked…in fact the canvas has often been burned, scarred, or abandoned. In Padua, Macinino™ (through the process of Macinazione) wants to restore to their rightful place the often forgotten objects that are necessary in creating finished works of art, bringing them out of their obscurity and into the limelight.
